Everything you need to know once you’ve signed up, in one place.

- Course
- What you register for, such as CH1A, Papa Mele or a Hoʻomaʻamaʻa lab. Each course is $80 for the whole Session.
- Level
- How advanced a Conversational Hawaiian course is: Levels 1 to 4, each with a Part A and a Part B.
- Section
- One of the times each week a course is taught, with the same lesson in each. Come to whichever Section suits you that week.
- Class
- One live, hour-long Zoom lesson with kumu. Each course has eight classes in a Session, one a week, and every one is recorded.
For example: register for a course such as CH1A for the Session. Each week, come to one class in whichever Section suits you. That’s eight classes, plus recordings of every Section, for $80.
Eight-week Sessions
A Session is eight weekly classes. There are five Sessions a year, usually with a one- or two-week break between them. Each course costs $80 for the whole Session, including notes, recordings, lesson PDFs and materials for every Section.
Joining on Zoom
Your Zoom Meeting ID is in the welcome email you receive when you register, and it stays the same all Session. You’ll also find it in your course Space in Kaiāulu. Open Zoom, choose “Join Meeting”, enter the ID, and you’ll wait in the Waiting Room until class begins.
Community Building Time
Each class opens with about twelve minutes for classmates to talk together in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi, at whatever level you’re at. It’s a friendly, judgement-free space to practise, and Kumu Kaliko listens in, sending word hints and gentle corrections in the chat.
Sections
Most courses are taught in two or three Sections at different times of day, with the same content each week. You sign up for the course, so you can come to whichever Section suits you that week.
Recordings and notes
Every Section is recorded. Videos, the combined class notes and lesson materials are posted in your course Space within 24 hours, so you never miss out.
Kaiāulu, your student community
Each course has its own private Space in Kaiāulu, where you’ll find the videos, notes and homework, and where you can chat with classmates and help each other between classes.
What you need
A laptop, desktop or tablet with a screen of at least 9.7 inches (the larger the better), and wired or wireless headphones to avoid feedback.
No textbook
There’s nothing to buy. All materials are provided.
Building vocabulary with uTalk

Changing levels
You can move between levels, even during a Session. Just let Student Support know so we can move you to the right course Space.
Joining late
You can register any time, even mid-Session. Earlier weeks’ videos and materials are waiting in your course Space so you can catch up.
Gift registrations
A course makes a wonderful gift. Ask us how.
How Kumu Kaliko teaches
Levels One and Two combine grammar-based and communicative teaching across reading, writing, listening and speaking, woven together with Hawaiian culture and history. Levels Three and Four are taught increasingly in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi through discussion, traditional literature and recordings of native speakers.
